7 month fixed-term, part-time opportunity  


About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, your primary responsibility will be to recruit, train and support foster carers and monitor the quality of care being provided to children and young people placed in family-based placements.

Your daily duties will be diverse, but in essence will include:

  • As part of a team, developing and implementing the recruitment for the fostering service including conducting initial interviews and pre-service training;
  • Providing ongoing monitoring of placements with foster carers including the transition of children and young people entering or exiting from placements;
  • Providing support to foster carers including developing support plans, education and training needs, matters of concern, individual placements and awareness of intervention services;
  • Working sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, children, young people, families and communities to provide culturally inclusive services and achieve sustainable outcomes within a culturally safe environment. 


About you

You are passionate about the welfare of children and achieving the absolute best outcomes for them.

Excellent interpersonal skills are part of your skill set enabling you to easily build rapport with people. With a naturally empathetic nature you are compassionate toward vulnerable individuals. You are approachable, and a great problem solver who can think quickly on your feet to make sound decisions.  

You are capable of liaising comfortably with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You have comprehensive knowledge of legislative requirements and effortlessly promote a culture of compliance.

To be suitable for this position, your qualifications for the role will consist of:

  • Certificate III in Protective Care, Youth or Community Services and/or related experience with a willingness to participate in further training;
  • Applied knowledge and understanding of child protection and out-of-home care frameworks including knowledge of The Child Protection Act 1999.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing training to adults and a range of supports including positive behaviour management and stress management strategies.
